| Pain Relief from Silkworms The natural Anti-Inflammatory Serrapeptase has had wide clinical use - spanning over twenty-five years throughout Europe and Asia - as a viable alternative to salicylates, ibuprofen and the more potent NSAIDs. Unlike these drugs, Serrapeptase is a naturally occurring, physiological agent with no inhibitory effects on prostaglandins and is devoid of gastrointestinal side effects.
Serrapeptase is a proteolytic enzyme isolated from the micro-organism Serratia E15. This enzyme is naturally processed commercially today through fermentation and was discovered in the silkworm intestine. This immunologically active enzyme is completely bound to the alpha 2 macroglobulin in biological fluids. Histological studies reveal powerful anti-inflammatory effects of this naturally occurring enzyme.
Serrapeptase digests non-living tissue, blood clots, cysts, and arterial plaque and inflammation in all forms. The late German physician, Dr. Hans Nieper, used Serrapeptase to treat arterial blockage in his coronary patients. Serrapeptase protects against stroke and is reportedly more effective and quicker than EDTA Chelation treatments in removing arterial plaque. He also reports that Serrapeptase dissolves blood clots and causes varicose veins to shrink or diminish. Dr. Nieper told of a woman scheduled for hand amputation and a man scheduled for bypass surgery who both recovered quickly without surgery after treatment with Serrapeptase.

| Stressless Christmas With Rhodiola Rhodiola rosea possesses properties to enable individuals to cope with everyday situations. It has been categorised as an adaptogen by Russian researchers due to its observed ability to increase resistance to a variety of chemical, biological, and physical Stresses. Research also indicates great utility in asthenia conditions (decline in work performance, sleep difficulties, poor appetite, irritability, Hypertension, Headaches, and Fatigue) developing subsequent to intense physical or intellectual strain. Increased mental and physical performance: Several clinical trials using double-blind placebo controls have provided strong evidence that rhodiola rosea extract imparts positive mood enhancement as well as anxiolytic properties with no detectable levels of toxicity. Rhodiola enhances mental and physical performance. It has been widely used by athletes to increase energy. Rhodiola can help to oxygenate the brain as well as muscle tissues, providing a dramatic boost in energy levels. Rhodiola has a positive influence on the nervous system, increasing attention span, memory, strength and mobility of the human body, improving mental ability, primarily enhancing the qualitative indicators of performed work. Studies confirm the effectiveness of rhodiola on physical rehabilitative processes which may be attributed to a rapid normalisation of lactic and uric acid during recovery. Stress reliever: Rhodiola's ability to help the body adapt to Stress may lie in its ability to enhance the level of serotonin, dopamine and other brain neurotransmitters. Serotonin and dopamine are normally broken down by the enzyme catechol-O-methyl transferase (COMT) and active compounds extracted from rhodiola rosea have shown to inhibit the activity of COMT. Research has shown that rhodiola rosea can increase the level of neurotransmitters by 30 per cent and decrease COMT activity by 60 per cent. A recent study reported that a preparation of rhodiola root extract on the stimulating and normalising of students during a stressful examination had positive effects on physical fitness, mental fatigue and neuro-motoric tests. Also a self-assessment of the general well-being of each individual was also significantly higher than placebo. Rhodiola rosea can reduce general Fatigue under certain stressful conditions. Others: Rhodiola seems to improve the ratio of muscle to fat, and increases haemoglobin and erythrocyte levels in the blood. Rhodiola possesses anti-Depression agents, helps boost the Immune System and is thought to help maintain the health of the heart. Quest Rhodiola tablets are £5.99 for 30 or £14.99 for 90. Solgar’s Standardised Full Potency Vegicaps are £15.45 for 60.

| Alkalise to Energise In my article in Issue 5, I wrote about Dr. Young’s book, pH Miracle, and how to gently restore health, balance and harmony to your body by alkalising to a healthy, alkaline pH level, where disease can’t get a foothold, using Dr. Young’s Innerlight Supergreens and Prime pH drops (The Cornerstone Pack). I have spoken to some of you about the 1st Innerlight London training meeting that I went to, and how informative and impressive it was. On Monday 17th November from 7.30pm till 10pm, there is a 2nd, similar one at London Victoria, next to the tube station. I’ll be catching the 5.23pm train from Broadstairs direct to Victoria. If anyone is interested in joining me to learn more about alkalising, entry is free to guests, and your return train fare will cost just £13 (from Broadstairs, less if you have a rail card). | Wildlife Garden Award We won a silver award! Thanet District Council, in conjunction with the Kent Wildlife Trust, run a “Gardening For Wildlife Awards Scheme”. Last year was it’s first, but our garden wasn’t ready to enter then. It still needs a lot of work, but we have the wildlife ponds, lots of native plants, a Willow tree, bird, bee and butterfly plants, water butts, composter, etc.
It’s well worth entering just to get the pack of information sheets they send you out. They are excellent! Really informative, even if you only have a tiny garden.
UK readers can phone Julie Belsey on 01843 577674 to be placed on the list to enter next year’s competition. She still has some of this year’s information packs available, though I don’t know how many. Ask her if you can have one and start looking after the wildlife in your garden now.
Remember we sell wild bird seed and nuts, feeders, nesting boxes, which should go up now for the spring, and bird tables. They make great Christmas presents! |
Thank you for taking the time to read "Naturally Yours". We hope you enjoyed this issue. Yours sincerely, Juliet and co. at Herbs, Gardens & Health
