 | NEW! Food Intolerance & Sensitivity Testing Up to 45% of people have symptoms linked to food intolerance – headaches, fatigue, poor complexion, feeling bloated, problems trying to lose weight or just feeling below par.
A revolutionary new and affordable food intolerance test is now available at Herbs, Gardens & Health. It can identify exactly how we can manage our dietary intake so that it is tailored to our individual body’s requirements.
Unlike other food intolerance tests, some of which use invasive techniques and can take up to three weeks to confirm results, the K-Test is non-invasive and shows instant results. By simply placing two fingers on the K-Test unit, within minutes of taking the test, you will receive a print-out of your own personal results, right there and then.
Debbie Sturge, Nutritional Therapist, will then go through the results with you, discuss areas of concern, and then a tailor made diet and supplement programme is put together for you as an individual. Your recommendations and relevant handouts are presented in a folder for you to keep.
The price is £55 for the initial test and £48 for a follow-up test and consultation.
To book, please call Herbs, Gardens & Health on 01843 600201 or Debbie on 07837 793 903 click here for further information |

| Shape up for Summer! While some of us long for hot summer days, for others the prospect is not so appealing. If overweight, the thought of stripping off into revealing summer clothes and swimsuits, may be one of dread. And if you’re currently dieting like mad to brave that bikini, take heed – DIETS DON’T WORK!
While you may shed unwanted pounds in the short term, come off the diet and you’ll almost certainly find the weight creep back on. Very low calorie diets and skipping meals are particularly bad, as these slow down metabolism (the rate at which food is converted into energy). And while slimming clubs are extremely popular and have some success, they may not encourage healthy eating. Nor do fad diets or slimming clubs take into account individual needs. Your weight problem may have an underlying physiological cause. A problem balancing blood sugar, food intolerances, a poor digestion or slow metabolism, can all affect weight – as can stress or lack of exercise. So what is the correct way to shift those pounds, for lasting weight loss?
An optimum diet, plus regular exercise is vital. Think ‘lifestyle change’ rather than ‘diet’. Measure and weigh yourself initially, but bear in mind your body fat percentage is more important and can be assessed on certain scales. An effective ‘diet’ encourages fat loss while retaining and increasing muscle mass. As muscle weighs more than fat, this may mean initial weight loss is slow, but don’t be put off. Muscle burns fat - for every pound of muscle gained, you’ll burn an extra 70 calories an hour! So don’t just watch your weight – you may find you lose inches before pounds.
General Guidelines:
Keep your diet as natural as possible – plenty of nutritious fruit & vegetables to boost liver function (essential for effective weight loss), & fibre to support blood sugar balance (BSB) & satisfy hunger.
Eat little and often (also supports BSB and stimulates metabolism) – aim for 3 meals & 2 snacks (e.g. fruit, a small handful of nuts or seeds, 2 oatcakes or crudités with humus).
Avoid sugar & refined foods like cakes & biscuits - empty calories! Avoid high fat foods – opt for poultry, fish or vegetarian proteins like beans, peas & lentils.
Avoid stimulants like caffeine (coffee / tea) which upset BSB – try alternatives like BarleyCup or Chicory, fruit / herb teas or Rooibos.
Don’t be fat phobic - avoid saturated fat, but include essential fats (omega 3 & 6) as vital for health & well-being. And they actually stimulate metabolism & burn fat! Rich sources include nuts, seeds & fish - but go easy!
Drink 1½ - 2 litres of water daily (to flush toxins & for appetite control)
ALWAYS EAT A GOOD BREAKFAST & CHEW FOOD THOROUGHLY!

| Living Food - Grow Your Own Salad Sprouts! Sprouts provide your body with a daily source of vitamins as well as valuable proteins, minerals, trace elements and enzymes.
During germination, there is a sharp increase in the vitamin content of sprouts; moreover, carbohydrates, fats and proteins are partially broken down, increasing their digestibility.
Weight for weight, sprouted seeds contain more nutrients than any other natural food known to man – enough to rival even the best supplement pills available.
Due to the fact that they are basically ‘baby plants’, they contain high concentrations of valuable enzymes, proteins, mineral substances, trace elements and natural vitamins.
Sprouts also contain excellent fibre that is beneficial to the intestines and regulates the digestive process.
Since they grow right up until the moment they’re picked, practically no nutrients are lost.
It couldn't be easier! You'll have a mini organic garden in the corner of your kitchen in no time, full of tasty and nutritious sprouts.
They're always on the grow!

| Slippery Elm - Digestive Healer The North American Indians were the first people to use Slippery Elm for its practical and medicinal properties.
The dried inner bark was grounded and mixed with liquid to make a nourishing food, especially for the sick and as a natural preservative to stop animal fats from going rancid.
The inner bark contains several active constituents, which act as demulcents that help to coat the mucous membranes. Being rich in mucilage, Slippery elm helps to soothe and heal digestive tract lining and neutralise stomach acids, making it useful for people with gastric reflux, peptic ulcers and indigestion. It also helps to reduce inflammation throughout the digestive tract, kidneys and bladder making it useful for conditions such as catarrh, ulcerative colitis, crohns and Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs).
Slippery Elm can also help us to digest the proteins in milk, so is often given to babies when cow's milk is introduced into their diet.
Externally, it helps to heal wounds, burns, scalds, drawing out splinters, ulcers and infected cuts.
Available in powder or capsules from just £4.49. click here for our Digestion page |
 | Manual Lymph Drainage & Weight Loss There are hundreds of ways to lose weight and every day we are bombarded and somewhat confused by the different methods and types of diets available, which promise to help us lose weight and gain energy.
MLD treats a wide variety of conditions. It has a very unique way of cleansing our lymphatic system. Occasionally the lymph system becomes blocked, due to toxin build up from pollution and other factors. This may inhibit any weight loss programme that you may have already begun or are considering starting.
The lymphatic system is a vast network of vessels and nodes (sometimes referred to as the body’s second circulatory system) which transport bacteria nutrients and waste from our blood system and filter the toxins from our tissues.
MLD is a very gentle and non-invasive specialized Austrian technique of massage developed in the 1930’s. It creates gentle stimulation to the nodes and lymph fluid to encourage drainage of congested and stagnating lymph. Signs of a sluggish lymph and lowered immune system maybe a general feeling of constant tiredness, lack of energy and re-occurring colds and flu. This could indicate that your body is holding waste material.
This non-invasive technique simply uses the stimulated lymph vessels and nodes to clear away the debris and loose connective tissue, cleansing the whole body and strengthening the immune system.
For anyone planning a detox or weight loss programme this treatment would be of great benefit, to purify the lymph system and possibly help shift those extra pounds.
Finally don’t be fooled by this very gentle and relaxing treatment, it is extremely powerful.
