Aqua Oleum Basil Essential Oil 10ml

The specific name of Basil derives from the Greek word Basileus, meaning King, indicating the esteem with which this herb was once regarded. Its history dates back many centuries, and it is said to have come to Europe via the islands in the Indian Ocean, i.e. Comores and Madagascar. Apart from the obvious culinary uses, Basil also has a long medicinal history, although this is sometimes exaggerated in various articles and books.

Much has been said and written regarding the safety of Basil Oil and methyl chavicol content. Our Basil has consistently conformed to the industry guidelines which relate to GRAS (generally recognised as safe) status granted by FEMA (Flavours and Extract Manufacturers Association).

As any green-fingered gardener will tell you, Basil is a difficult plant to encourage and reacts to poor irrigation, sudden changes in temperature, and poor sunlight. It usually takes between 600-2000 kg of leaves and flowers to make 1 kg of oil, hence the higher price for this top quality oil.

We offer Basil from Egypt, which has a more herb-like character, and does not smell as sweet as the oil of Comores origin.
