Aqua Oleum Cedarwood Essential Oil 10ml

The essential oil is steam-distilled from the wood and stumps of the tree after they have been ground to pulp and sawdust. The odour is reminiscent of freshly sharpened pencils. It is in fact one of the only true cedarwoods as others, like Virginian and Texan, are Juniperus varieties whilst Red Cedar and Swamp Cedar are Thuja varieties.

Although native to the Atlas Mountains in Algeria, most of the essential oil production takes place in Morocco. The wood itself is hard and very aromatic due to the high level of essential oil it contains. Records from the 1920’s show that, while the oil of Atlas Cedarwood contains less than one-sixth of the alcohols of Indian Sandalwood Oil, it was just as effective against gonorrhoea. In the researcher’s opinion, either the alcohols were more active or, as seems more probable, the sesquiterpenes were more active.

We will not sell Juniperus Virginiana (Red Cedarwood), as it is an irritant. It has caused death and is an abortifaciant.
