Aqua Oleum Citronella Essential Oil 10ml

We source our oil from Sri Lanka where it is steam-distilled from the grass known locally as Lena Batu. There are three types of grass in Sri Lanka - Maha Pengiri (commonly known as Winter Grass), Lena Batu and wild Mana Grass.

The Lena Batu grass originated circa 1885 in Matara, in the southern part of the island. The essential oil is distilled from the fully dried or partly dried grass and yields a yellow liquid reminiscent of citrus. Its scent is chiefly due to two constituents, geraniol and citronellal. The oil is distilled on an enormous scale with some 50,000 acres in Sri Lanka alone dedicated to the production of this oil. Its chief usage is in the preparation of cheap soaps and detergent fragrances, and usually to adulterate more expensive oils that are high in either of the main constituents i.e. Palmarosa, Rose Otto and absolute, Geranium Oil etc.
