Aqua Oleum Eucalyptus Essential Oil 10ml Also known as Eucalyptus Citron, or Eucalyptus Lemon, with a citronellal content in excess of 90%. The essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the leaves and twigs, yielding a colourless to pale yellow liquid with an odour similar to Citronella oil. Although native to Australia, the major suppliers are now Brazil and China. E. Citriodora is popular with perfumers as it is currently cheaper to extract the natural citronellal for commercial use than produce the synthetic variant. Natural citronellal ex Citriodora is also a starting material for the production of menthol crystals, another plus factor for this previously dormant oil. In the early 1980’s, plantations of E. Citriodora were set up in Kenya, as a source of strong and heavy termite-resistant timber. The project has worked so successfully that they have investigated the possibility of producing the essential oil. Initial yields have been in the region of 2.2% to 4.1%, which is comparable to Brazilian oil and odour is quite good. Unfortunately, the citronellal content is quite erratic and local people are unwilling to take the time to control the production as they are only interested in the timber. Hopefully, they will come to appreciate the value of the oil in the long term and put Kenya on the map as a supplier of natural oil. The following constituents are typical of E. Citriodora .....
Other trace elements include alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, terpinolene, and linalool oxide.
