Aqua Oleum Peppermint Essential Oil 10ml
Peppermint Oil is produced in the USA, India, China, Hungary, Italy, Russia,
Spain, Australia and numerous other countries. Even within America, there are
numerous qualities and varieties produced and the differences can sometimes be
remarkable. American peppermint cultivation began in 1816 with the plants
initially imported from England. Around the 1950s production concentrated on the
‘mucklands’ of Michigan, which were originally swampy marshlands. The peppermint
flourished in this environment and the USA became the premier supplier of top
grade Peppermint Oils.
In recent years both India and China have become major producers of
Peppermint Oil. Their desire to attract dollar investment and foreign currency
has encourage them to sell it cheaply, which has attracted the international
traders, causing them to supply their oils across the industry. Initially these
countries, especially China, did not receive the financial rewards for their
efforts and allowed the traders to artificially raise the price of their oil but
keep the profits for themselves. Unfortunately this is a classic case of a
poorer country being exploited. The phenomenal increase in the oral care market
has further enhanced the mint industry with the marketing of toothpastes,
mouthwashes and related products being responsible for the increased demand.
The flavour industry is the main focus of attention for peppermint and the
individual companies usually create in-house blends to suit the various flavours
required for a particular project. This involves blending oils from various
origins or extracting constituents from one origin to add to another. Pennyroyal
Oil and Spearmint are used in the cross blending also. A typical list of
