Aqua Oleum Rosemary Essential Oil 10ml

Regarded as the premier quality of Rosemary Oil, Tunisian oil increased in popularity in the early 1980s due to the need for a natural antioxidant in the perfumery industry. Until this time, a variety of chemical alternatives were used but the flavourists and fine fragrance industries demanded a natural alternative. Specific research was carried out on both Rosemary and Sage Officinalis.

In 1982, the Department of Food & Nutrition at Osaka City University in Japan, isolated a phenolic diterpene and called it ‘Rosemanol’, and its success has soared over the last ten years. On the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence, the structure has been determined as -

7b,11,12-trihydroxy-6,10-(epoxymethano)abieta-8,11,13-trien-20-one

(try pronouncing that one!). This interest contributed to the further decline of Spanish Rosemary Oil that is still somewhat crude and rough due to camphor and cineol adulteration. In the following table we compare the constituents of Tunisian and Spanish Rosemary oils:
