Aqua Oleum Thyme Essential Oil 10ml

There are numerous varieties of the Thymus species, too many in fact to cover in less than a few pages. The constituents from the same country. Extensive research has been carried out on thyme over the years, but the researchers have failed to correctly categorise the oil botanically. Sometimes the oil evaluated did not resemble the oil of commerce. Research was carried out, for instance, on the T. Vulgaris variety from a number of countries including Kenya, Italy, Russia and Germany, not renowned for their mass production. The analyses as a result were quite varied and difficult to evaluate accurately.

Depending on which book you read, you will also get conflicting reports on what the constituents of a species/variety could and should be. Some varieties are safe, while many are not. In the following table we attempt to compare T. Zygis with T. Vulgaris:

There is also considerable confusion regarding the various chemotypes of Thyme and the species used.

For example: Thyme Lemon (T. Citriodorus) is a cross between T. Vulgaris and T. Pulegioides. In some journals suppliers call this T. Hyemalis or T. Himalis, which is more closely related to Verbena. Even within the citriodorus species there are numerous varieties.
