Spring 2001

Spring has sprung!

Daffodils are opening, frogs are spawning and Spring is nearly here!

Blossom is blooming, leaf buds opening.....I love this time of year!

                        Juliet              Butterfly by Rita Hudd

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way.

Ten thousand saw I at a glance
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but theyDaffodils
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:

A poet could but not be gay,

In such a jocund company.

They flash up on that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude.

(Wordsworth)

We thought we had Blue Tits nesting in the box on the Willow Tree, but haven't seen them going in and out for the last couple of days. However, I saw a Robin on the balcony this morning, eating the peanuts in the feeder! The tadpoles in the water tank and in the Butler sink are getting bigger. Can't wait till we make our new pond! Watch this space....

Goldfinch in our garden! 6th May 2001

2nd June 2001

We really have got baby Blue Tits in the nesting box! Mum and Dad have been really busy keeping them fed! They're in and out constantly with grubs on the way in, and white sacks of dirt on their way out! We could hear the babies last weekend, but now we can actually see their little heads coming out of the hole, beaks open, waiting to be fed! They must be nearly ready to emerge. Hope it's tomorrow (Sunday), or we'll miss them when we're at work. Took photos today, anyway. Show you when they're developed........

Here they are!

                                                          Baby Blue Tits

Unfortunately we missed seeing the babies leaving the box. They were gone by 7am on Monday the 3rd. It's now Sunday the 17th of June 2001 and we haven't seen them since. We've yet to take the box down to clean it, ready for next year. We may get some idea of how many babies  were in there then.

are thriving and their numbers increasing in the Thanet area of Kent.
